Tatiana Wilson
Class of 2010
I am finishing up my final semester as an African Studies
concentrator. My main interests lie in the creative arts,
education, childhood development and religion. I had the
opportunity to study in Mali with a musician and his dance
troupe, as well as take a few courses on African music, religion
and storytelling here at Harvard. I have spent the past two
summers primarily in Uganda, serving with faith-based
organizations that work with at-risk populations of children
(HIV/AIDS orphans, street kids and former child soldiers). After
doing an independent research project which focused on
rehabilitation programs that incorporate art therapy into the
healing process of traumatized children, I got involved with a
NGO founded by two friends of mine that uses art as a tool to
educate and empower children who were living in the streets of
Kampala. After graduating, I hope to develop a deeper, richer
understanding of how to incorporate faith and the arts into the
education and empowerment of youth populations in Africa and
beyond.
